Northern Harriers.

My sister Liz and I were watching the zombie show, "Walking Dead" one night. One of the characters said something and Liz turned to me and said, "Well, that wasn't very believable!"

Then we started laughing because really, is anything believable on a zombie show?

This week Liz and I saw a hawk soaring overhead. I took notice of its markings. Then we saw another  hawk sitting in the tree behind our backyard. I got my binoculars and looked at it carefully. My bird book says they were both Northern Harriers. The one in the air with a white body underneath and black tips on its wings was the male. The one in the tree was a female. It was exciting to see them at the same time.

I saw this image of Hale-Bopp on Wikimedia Commons. I thought it was so beautiful.

I adore that last photo Belle. You're also right that when on a show about zombies nothing else can really be thought of as too unrealistic. I've heard rave reviews from friends and online about the Walking Dead so I really should check it out!

Hello, dear Belle! I loved the original zombie movie trilogy directed by George Romero, the first picture released in 1968 and the last in 1985. The third movie, Day of the Dead, was especially interesting because, for the first time, it portrayed the flesh eaters as more sympathetic characters than the humans. THAT I can believe.

I spotted a hawk in my own back yard birdbath yesterday. They are magnificent creatures.

I never tire of gazing at images of the cosmos. The awesome beauty of nature is art in its highest form.

I hope you are well and in good spirits, dear friend Belle, and I'll talk to you again soon.

I am not a Zombie person. It seems that most books and movies today all have something to do with Zombies. I'm really not a hawk person either as we watch the big birds fly off with our chickens. We actually saw a bald eagle swooping down a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful owls, hawks and eagles carry out the balance of nature, just wish they wouldn't include my chickens. Now a star, that's not a threat...unless it is crashing into earth.

That is a gorgeous bird- how wonderful to see it close enough to identify it. I can't watch any of those zombie shows on tv- I would have bad dreams all night! You are brave, my friend!

I've never watched "Walking Dead", but just the title is enough to scare me a little.
Very cool that you saw the hawks that close.

Nice photos! And you are right - zombie shows are most definitely not logical or believable!

Claudia- Stars just amaze me!

Matthew- Walking Dead has interesting characters and story lines. I think you would like it.

Tom- Yes, I am doing well, thanks. I've never seen those shows you talked about. I only started watching this show because Liz does. It is pretty good. I'm with you, I think zombies are just misunderstood!

Granny- Nature looks beautiful from far away, but it is also brutal. No, I wouldn't want my poor chickens to be taken by a hawk either!

Shelly- It was thrilling to see the birds. Actually, zombies don't scare me because they aren't real. But I can't watch shows about serial killers because they are real. That would give me nightmares!

Pearl- Another fan! I can't wait til it starts again.

Jeanie- Well, it can be gross at times. I close my eyes when the zombies are killing people.

Sherry- Glad you liked the photos. I like shows that aren't believable! They are a lot of fun.

Hi dear Belle. We all know how much you love the planets and stars. I can imagine you and Liz laughing at that comment about the zombie show! You're obviously having great fun together, and I am so happy about that. How wonderful to have spotted those hawks. Take care.

Diane- Liz and I are having tons of fun together. I hope you are feeling better.

Chatty- They just don't scare me at all, which is pretty strange I guess!

Dearest Belle,
Hello, so sorry for my long absence, my Canadian friend☆☆☆
Oh, old time in Japan land lords (Samurai) used hawks for hunting. They are really beautiful, aren't they(^_^)v Personally, never seen them before.
Oh, my husband watched your picture of Hale-Bopp comet and loved it(*^_^*)

Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
