Stick Rummy - The Game Rules.

My sister, Liz, has started blogging again so I thought I would tell everyone! She has decided to post reviews of movies, video games, and books. Also, she posts some funny stuff, like today:

Anyone interested in these topics can visit her at http://ramblingseaj.blogspot.com
This is a picture of Liz when she was in Australia around 10 years ago. It is my favorite pic of her.

A lot of people wanted to know how to play Stick Rummy. Here are the the rules. Once you get the hang of it, it is quite easy.

4 Decks of cards with Joker included.

75 tongue depressor sticks.

Each stick has instructions printed on it of cards you must have in order to lay down your hand. As soon as you have the cards you need on the stick you must lay them down and any other matches you have, such as a run of three or more, or three or a kind or more.
A run is a set of cards one number after the other ex: 7,8,9 or J,Q,K of the same suit. A set is three or more of the same number - the suit does not have to match or it can match.

Twos and Jokers are wild, but you must have at least one card to make a set. Ex: If the stick asks you for Three Kings and a run of four spades, you must have at least one King and one of the spades, the rest can be wild cards.

Each player gets 15 cards. Play moves to the left and the player left of the dealer starts. The deck is put in the middle and a card is turned over.

The first player picks up the turned over card or a card from the deck and then discards. Each player can then take a card from the deck or a card from the discard pile and then must discard. Anyone can pick up the entire discard pile if they wish. You do not have to have a discard when you lay down all your cards, but you can have one if you need to. You cannot pick up your own wild cards. You can only pick up other player's wild cards if you have laid down your hand from your stick.

The sticks are placed face down in a pile on the table. Everyone picks one stick and tries to get that hand. When they do they must turn over their stick, lay the cards down and any other cards that go together. The first person to lay down all their cards wins that round and keeps his stick turned right side up. He then gets to choose another stick for the next round. Everyone else has to keep their same stick and try again. The first player to keep 5 sticks is the winner.

This is a list of the hands that are written on the sticks. There are also 4 FREE sticks which means the player gets to turn it over, keep it and choose another.

I hope I explained this game thoroughly. If not, tell me what you don't get in a comment.

Here is a list of all the writing on the sticks.
