Goodbye $80,000

Christine was cleaning her closet and came upon her husband's old hockey cards. He has saved them since he was a child. "He has a Wayne Gretzky Rookie card," she told me. I was impressed, I said, "Let's look it up on the net and see if it's worth anything."

I googled the card and the first article that came up said, "The most valuable trading card in existance - Wayne Gretzky Rookie card goes for $80,000."

Whoa! But Christine said that her hubby had told her his card was not in perfect condition, so it wasn't worth much. So, I read the article and yes, the card that was sold was a perfect 10 out of 10. A Gem Mint 10 to be exact. I looked at son-in-laws card, no, it was not a 10 or even a nine. Looked like a 4 or 5 to me. So I looked up those kind of cards and they were selling quite cheap - like $20 or so.

Oh well, for a nano-second Christine had $80,000. Would have been very nice for her.

Her husband also had some old cars in the original boxes (although the boxes had been opened). One of them was worth $60. Not bad, but it won't pay the bills.
