The first man I ever loved was Superman. I was a little girl, (well naturally, an adult wouldn't be in love with him unless she was pretty strange), and he was my hero. Every week my brother, sister and I were given money to buy a comic book. I always bought Superman.
I admired his chisled face, his high morals and his great kindness. I was amazed at the different ways he would save people. Sometimes he was in terrible trouble himself when an evil foe used Kryptonite against him. The writers always had an ingenious way for him to escape.
His love for Lois Lane was sad, for he could never tell her who he was or the bad guys would kill her to get back at him. He sometimes felt all alone in the world. When he would talk about his dead parents I would cry.
I watched the TV Superman series. It is definately corny, but I loved it. When the movies came out I was an adult, but I went to every one and thought Christopher Reeve did a great job. I like this new guy too. When I lived in Vancouver my grandsons liked to go to the huge comic store on Granville St. I found old Superman comics there and bought some just for fun. When I read them I remembered why he was my hero.
Thanks Superman, for all great memories.
Who was your hero when you were young?
