The infamous pruner.
The latest item I bought from the Dollar Store was pruning shears (see above). I didn't expect them to cut limbs off the trees, but I did need them to trim down the bushes. I cut the first branch and it folded as if giving me homage. It was cut half way through; not exactly what I wanted. I hacked and pulled with the "pruner" until branches were finally laying on the ground in surrender.
That's the way it is with stuff you buy from the dollar stores. If they actually have to perform some kind of action, they fail spectacularly. If they have to just sit there, like a vase, you are OK. Here is a list of things I have bought that I advise you not to purchase.
Sticky Tape Lint Remover: It sticks to itself so well that when you peel it three or four sheets come off at a time.
Paint Brushes: If you enjoy picking bristles out of the wall as you paint, you're going to love these brushes.
Lighters: You have to shake them in order for them to work, then when they do work the flame is 5 inches high.
Coffee Cups: They may say they are microwavable but they're not.
Tape: It breaks off each time you get a piece, so you have to get a microscope and find the broken end and try to peel it off again and then it breaks again. Not the best tape for wrapping presents on Christmas Eve as I found out to my sorrow.
Clothes Pins: I bought them to make a craft (don't ask), but the tension was so loose on the hinge that they opened up sideways.
Safety Pins: They are not safe.
You may ask, "Why do you keep buying stuff at dollar stores?" I don't know. Incurable optimism? Maybe I need help.
